Researcher Xiaodong Lee Renewed his membership of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of the Internet Governance Forum

On 23 March 2016, United Nation has released the renewed name list of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of the Internet Governance Forum. Researcher Xiaodong Lee, the director of CNNIC has renewed his membership of MAG, who was nominated by ISOC, representing national internet technical community, and successfully selected into MAG in January 2014.

 

MAG is the highest advisory and decision-making institution for IGF, with the purpose to advise the Secretary-General on the program and schedule of the Internet Governance Forum meetings. The MAG is comprised of 55 members from governments, the private sector, technical community and civil society. Among the total 55 members, 21 of them are new appointed. Besides researcher Xiaodong Lee, other two new appointed Chinese experts come from Hong Kong, respectively Ms. Ho,Bianca Caroline, NetMission Ambassador from NetMission.Asia, and Mr.Ho Chi Ping, Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General at China Energy Fund Committee.

 

United Nations Secretary-General has appointed Lynn St. Amour, president and CEO of Internet-Matters and former President of ISOC, as the new Chair of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of the Internet Governance Forum on 11 March 2016. It is the first time that Chair of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group has been taken by non-governmental person, Ms. Lynn St. Amour, who is the successor of Jānis Kārkliņš, the outgoing Chair of MAG 2015.

 

Information: Brief introduction of IGF and MAG

The Internet Governance Forum is an open forum specifically focused on internet governance, which was established by the World Summit on the Information Society in November 2006.This forum is the highest level conference to discuss global internet governance related issues. It brings together mutilstakeholders in the Internet governance debate, whether they are from governments, intergovernmental organizations, the private sector, civil society, academia, and technical community on an equal basis and through an open and inclusive process. IGF plays quite an important role in the policy-making of international internet organizations such as ITU and ICANN, as well as the internet management implementation or participation of nations and the internet community and enterprises.

 

In order to better guide IGF, MAG was established with the purpose to advise the Secretary-General on the program and schedule of the annual Internet Governance Forum meetings, which becomes the highest advisory and decision-making institution for IGF.

 

The 11th IGF will be held in Cancun, Mexico, November 2016.
