Researches in CNNIC won Cisco Research Fund
MAO Wei, the chief scientist of CNNIC and MA Di, his doctoral candidate, have won American Cisco Fund for their research on DHCP. IP researches by CNNIC focus on the actual requirements of network management. Some of the technologies have drawn attention and support from top companies in the industry. The outcomes of researches integrate well with the innovative applications of technologies in the industry.
In October 2009, CNNIC-Cisco Addressing Research Lab was co-founded by CNNIC and Cisco Systems, Inc., and Doctor Ralph Droms (IETF Area Director, designer of DHCP) from Cisco was assigned as the chief scientist. Since the establishment of the Lab, both sides have cooperated profoundly on IP addressing technology and have made fruitful progress. On the 79th IETF meeting held in November 2010, MA Di, a doctoral candidate from CNNIC Technology Development Department presented his individual draft at the Dynamic Host Configuration (DHC) working group meeting. The draft describes IPSec Security Association parameter management mechanism based on DHCP, which is approved by Doctor Ralph Droms and other experts. Based on that draft, Professor MAO Wei and the doctoral candidate MA Di submitted an application for fund to Cisco in July 2011. The application was approved of in October 2011.
The research project funded by Cisco is named “Integrated IPSec Security Association Management with DHCP.” An IPSec security parameter management framework was designed based on DHCP, aiming to provide flexible and efficient network solutions for the IPSec connection management between Customer Premises Network server and user devices.
