The Asian-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program Selected as APEC Program
On April 26, the 49th Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Telecommunications and Information Working Group (APEC TEL) ended in Yangzhou, Jiangsu. 16 economies, including Australia and American, and more than 150 Chinese and foreign representatives, including the chairman of APEC TEL, the vice chairman of APEC TEL, and representatives from the Secretariat of APEC TEL, attended the meeting. The Asian-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program, applied by CNNIC on behalf of China and co-sponsored by Indonesia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Viet Nam, was announced to be in the rolls of APEC programs at the meeting.The project aims at promoting Internet resources capacity building in Asia-Pacific region and expanding extensive cooperation with the APEC economies in the fields of technology, industry and so on.
As an important operation administrator and service organization of Chinese Internet resources, CNNIC successively initiated and carried out the China-Southeast Asia Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program for two years from 2012. Based on such experience, CNNIC submitted the Asian-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program to APEC TEL ICT Development Steering Group in March, and participated in the APEC TEL 49th meeting upon invitation in April.The endorsement of this program by APEC TEL laid a good foundation for the future international cooperation and industry output among the economies in Asia-Pacific.
The APEC TEL is one of the earliest working groups set up by APEC in 1990. Oriented at the APEC overall objects, it aims to facilitating trade and investment in telecommunications and conducting exchange and cooperation on telecommunication policies and technology application in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC TEL convenes working group meetings twice every year, and telecommunication ministers’ meetings once every two or three years.As one of the most important areas for China to participate in the APEC cooperation, the APEC TEL meeting has become one of the most important annual international conferences in the telecommunications and information industry, and is playing an increasingly important role to guide the development of the industry in the Asia Pacific region.
