On August 20th the Opening Ceremony of 2013 Asia-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program was held in Beijing. Representatives from the competent institutions in the industry, such as Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), technological and operational experts team from Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of CAS and China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), as well as representatives from Cambodia, Indonesia, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the ceremony.
The Opening Ceremony was presided by Dr. Xiaodong LEE, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CNNIC. Mr. Ziping LIU, Director of the Asian and African Division, International Operation Department of MIIT, Mr. Yongtao ZHANG, Director of the Asian and African Division, International Operation Department of NSFC, Mr. Qiang FANG, Director of the Asian and African Division, International Operation Department of CAS, and Mr. Xiangyang HUANG, Director of CNIC & CNNIC, addressed the Opening Ceremony, respectively.
During the meeting, CNNIC signed a MOU both with Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia (PANDI) and National Information Technology Center of Jordan (NITC). Both parties of the Memorandums will enhance cooperation in the fields of international domain names (IDNs), email address internationalization (EAI), new generic top level domain (New gTLD), DNS service and deployment, as well as the establishment of Internet security and information exchange mechanism.
The 2013 Asia-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program is guided and supported by CAS, MIIT and NSFC, aiming to provide an international communication platform for the Internet leaders and pioneers in Asia to conduct in-depth cooperation on the Internet fundamental resources and to share experience on the Internet operation and administration, so as to accelerate the Internet development in Asia and enhance the status of Asia among the international Internet organizations and communities.
Based on the neighborhood friendship, China maintains a long history of communication in economy, culture and society with surrounding countries in Asia. Seeking for more opportunities of communication and mutual learning, in December 2012 CNNIC successfully held the first Fundamental Internet Resources Program in Kunming, China, in which leaders from the network information centers of Laos, Vietnam, Mongolia and Jordan respectively participated. This program, which included lectures, practice operations and discussions, was completed successfully. The participating countries expressed their hope that various countries in Asia conduct in-depth discussion and cooperation in respect of the construction and development of Internet infrastructure with the establishment and gradually perfection of an exchange mechanism.
As the 2nd strategic program, the 2013 Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program has invited people working in governments, Internet administration institutions as well as other Internet practitioners from more than 10 countries, more specifically, the responsible people in each national network information center and people with important influence in the DNS field in Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Mongolia, Jordan, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Republic of Korea and Brunei. By consistently broaden the scope of such program, countries in Asia can be closely connected to each other via Internet and embrace the booming prosperity brought by the rapid developing Internet, said Dr. Xiaodong LEE, CEO of CNNIC.
