CNNIC Convenes the Conference for Releasing the 37th Statistical Report on Internet Development in China
On January 22, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) convened in Beijing a conference to release its 37th Statistical Report on Internet Development in China. Zhuang Rongwen, Deputy Director of the Office of the Central Leading Group for Cyberspace Affairs and the Cyberspace Administration of China, Huang Libin, Deputy Director General of the Performance Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and Nie Linhai, Deputy Director General of the Department of Electronic Commerce and Information at the Ministry of Commerce attended and addressed the conference.
Zhuang indicated in his speech that China had made great breakthroughs in its development of Internet in 2015 under the guidance and support of a series of state policies. Firstly, China had 688 million Internet users, with an Internet penetration rate of over 50%; secondly, the number of registered .cn domain names surpassed .de domain names of Germany, and making .cn the biggest Country Code Top-Level Domain (ccTLD) in the world; thirdly, both the proportions of mobile phone Internet users and those who access the Internet via Wi-Fi to the total population of Internet users exceeded 90%. Fourthly, the total number of websites of China reached 4.23 million, up by 880 thousand over 2014, hitting a historical high. He recognized the long-term efforts made by CNNIC in promoting the development of IT applications in China, and urged CNNIC to conduct further statistical researches on the Internet development in China and develop itself into a world-class think tank for the study of Internet development.
Huang said in his speech that MIIT will be committed to supporting the development of medium, small and micro-sized enterprises in 2016 starting from the fields of intelligent manufacturing and the “Internet+” action plan. He, on behalf of MIIT, thanked CNNIC for its long-term efforts in Internet data research and analysis and expected CNNIC to further strengthen the researches on “Internet+”, typical areas and the industrial market.
Nie mentioned at the meeting that the rapid development of e-commerce in China has created a new channel for improving people's material and cultural lives and has become a new engine and force for economic development of the country. Meanwhile, he thanked CNNIC for its great support to the Ministry of Commerce in terms of related regulatory work and researches.
