On March 11 the World Economic Forum announced in Geneva the “2014 List of Young Global Leaders (YGL)”. CNNIC CEO and researcher Li Xiaodong was on the list, which demonstrates the world’s recognition of the rapid development of China’s Internet and its growing global influence.
This year’s YGLs come from the political, economic, academic, art circles, mass media, non-profit organizations, and other fields. 214 people from 66 countries and regions, including 11 persons from China, were selected into the list. All these people will become members of the Forum of Young Global Leaders.
Created by Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, the honor of YGL is awarded annually by the World Economic Forum to the most distinguished young leaders below the age of 40 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to their respective fields. Composed of international elites headed by Jordanian Queen Rania Abdullah, the Selection Committee once a year selects YGLs from more than 4000 young candidates who come from various fields across the world. The criteria for selection include outstanding achievements that have been made; leadership experience; public image; the ability to overcome difficulties; and social contributions. Candidates’ self-recommendation is not accepted. The title of YGL is intended to commend those who have made outstanding professional achievements, social contributions and have played a significant role in shaping the future world through invigorative leadership.
Dr. Li Xiaodong has done significant and valuable work in promoting China’s Internet technology and industry development, strengthening China’s cooperation with other countries and enhancing the country’s international influence in this field. He was ICANN Vice President in charge of Asia-Pacific affairs, and now he is member of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of UN Internet Governance Forum as well as member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council. He was honored as “China Software Industry Outstanding Youth” and was the winner of “China Youth May Fourth Medal”.
