The New Era of Email is coming

On June 19th, 2012, the press conference for Emails with Internationalized Email Address was held in Beijing. During the conference, a scientist of Chinese Academy of Sciences sent the world’s first Email with Internationalized Email Address. The leaders of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) attended the conference. The Internet experts　including Internet Society of China, China Communications Standards Association highly appreciated the significance of interconnection with Email with Internationalized Email Address, which helps connection between non-English countries and the global Internet.

The conference was hosted by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). During the conference, professor Hualin QIAN of Chinese Academy of Sciences sent the world’s first Email with Internationalized Email Address 钱华林@中科院.中国 to the Internet experts from Beijing, HONG KONG, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Australia, Canada, America and etc. The receivers replied the Email for congratulations, thus witnessed and participated the historic moment.

Most of Internet applications can only choose English as language due to the historic causes, which brought about the linguistic obstacle that can't be neglected. Non-English speaking countries are always dedicated to non-English language Internet applications. Since the birth of Internet, each country devoted itself to the mother-language typing and displaying system. Afterwards, the great development of global internationalized domain name promoted the discourse right of Internet from applications to the Internet standards.

As the earliest and most popular fundamental application, Email with multi-languages has the profound significance while it requires extremely high technical standards for its upgrade and update. Due to the difficulties, CNNIC took the lead to publish the core international standards of Email with Internationalized Email Address--SMTP Extension for Internationalized Email (RFC6531), which was issued by IETF on Feb 18th, 2012. Issue of the standard embodies the technical capability and influence power of China in the international Internet field. RFC6531 is the fourth IETF RFCs published by CNNIC following RFC3743, RFC4713, and RFC5336 in the field of domain name internationalization. Based on Internet standard work, CNNIC launched the research for several years and set up the strategic partnership with the Chinese top Email service provider Coremail to take the interconnection test among multi organizations so as to mature the solution of Email with Internationalized Email Address.

Madam Qiheng HU, president of the Internet Society of China said, Internationalized Email Address standards will support each country to adopt the local language as Email address and thus narrow the digital gap effectively so that the internet applications will be more friendly and diversified. Meanwhile, the adoption of the standards will help further enlarge the influence power and discourse right for China in the international Internet standard field.

For the long-term, Chinese academy of sciences is always dedicated to support the research and development of latest technology including Domain Name Internationalization, Chinese Email Address Internationalization, IPv6, next-generation Internet, mobile Internet, Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing to actively explore the new mode of integrated development of industry, academy and research. During the publication process of RFC6531 (SMTP Extension for Internationalized Email), Chinese Academy of Sciences faciliated the set up of the IETF working group with the competent departments including MIIT, assisted contacting the global experts to accererlate the formulation of standards. Next, Chinese Academy of Sciences will ally with the associated departments and enterprises broadly to actively accelerate the applciation popularization of Internationalized Email and boost the industrial development with the issue of technical standard.

The publication of standard for Email with Internationalized Email Address broke up the ice of English as the sole language selection of Email address and sped up the commercial progress of internationalized Email address. The founder Mr. Leihua CHEN of Coremail--the Email service provider who possesses more than three hundred million end-users said that Coremail will speed up the upgrade of internationalized Email platform so that the users can adopt various languages as the Email address as soon as possible. Under the active input, development and service by a large amount of Email and internet service providers with Coremail as the representative, the era of internationalized Email address is coming soon.
