CNNIC Held 2013 Asia-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program

2013 Asia-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program, which was held by CNNIC and lasted for 20 days, successfully lowered its curtain on September 7th in Beijing. Guided and supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, this program was held jointly by Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) and China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). This program aimed to provide an international exchange platform, through which Internet leaders and forerunners in Asia can conduct in-depth cooperation on Internet fundamental resources, share experience on Internet operation and administration, as well as enhance the influence of Asia among international Internet organizations and communities. 34 representatives of governments, registries and experts in industry from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the program.
 
CNIC and CNNIC, as hosts of the meeting, arranged more than 30 lectures given by both internal and external experts covering international policies, DNS technology, network design and architecture, integrated data center, information security and etc. CNNIC representatives and foreign attendees also discussed and exchanged opinions on cutting-edge technologies, including Internet of Things, internationalized email address and IPv6. Moreover, guided by CNNIC representatives, the foreign guests visited 4 famous Chinese IT companies, namely, 21ViaNet Group, Sugon, Huawei and Baidu, as well as a state key laboratory in Beijing Jiaotong University. Shocked by the achievements made by Chinese high-tech companies in the Internet filed and inspired by their open and cooperative attitude, after the visits all of the foreign guests expressed strong willingness to conduct future collaboration and have closer relationship with their Chinese counterparts in industry. 
 
This program bears many fruits. CNNIC has signed all-round Memorandums of Understanding with Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia and Jordan National Information Technology Center respectively. The signing parties will step forward to cooperate in the aspects of node swap, joint research and development, talent cultivation and training, international standard formulization, international support, Internet security and information exchange mechanism, as well as other hot issues. CNNIC and its counterpart in Mongolia have reached agreement on node swap. A Cambodian company plans to be agent for DNS software and hardware devices independently developed by CNNIC to promote their application in Cambodia. Last but not least, CNNIC and 7 countries in Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand and Vietnam, have reached agreement on mutual supports in international organizations, including Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Asia-Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD) and Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC).
 
2013 Asia-Pacific Internet Resources Capacity Cooperation Program not only has increased mutual understanding and trust between the organizations in industry in Asia, but also propelled the cooperation in the fields of Internet fundamental resources service and architecture construction between the attending organizations and CNNIC. Based on the productive exchange and solid friendship, more concrete and tangible collaboration will be launched in the future.
